Capture your big day’s best moments with these 5 best wedding photographers in Birmingham

  • Photo quality and creativity: We assessed the wedding photographers’ portfolios for quality, originality, consistency, and creativity. We also checked whether they have a unique style of photography.
  • Experience and expertise: We checked the wedding photographers' length of experience in the business. Longevity breeds knowledge and is a sign that they’ve earned the trust of many.
  • Professionalism and communication: We investigated how responsive and communicative the wedding photographers are with their clients. We also assessed how well they make transactions smooth and hitch-free and how easy they are to work with.
  • Client reviews and testimonials: We checked client reviews, particularly on Google and social media. Happy couples' feedback speaks volumes for us. Patterns of praise (and complaints) paint a clearer picture of how good (or bad) a wedding photographer is.

My family’s got the wedding photography spell. Why is that, you ask?

My cousin and her then-fiance hired this Birmingham-based wedding photographer, but his photos were meh. My other relative’s experience was worse: The photographer was paid a premium but showed up late and failed to deliver on his promise of quality pictures.

I’m not worried, though, because I’ll be the one to break the hex. And why’s that? Well, I’ve done my homework—asking around, reading reviews, and gathering recommendations.

After all that digging, I can finally say with confidence that I’ve found Birmingham’s best wedding photographers!

How much do wedding photographers charge in Birmingham?

Wedding photographers in Birmingham generally charge between £600 and £1,500. However, this is typically for a basic half-day coverage package. The price depends on the photographer’s experience and season (peak vs. off-peak).

A colleague referred Darron Palmer Photography to us and described him as one of the best. We reviewed his online portfolio and were quite impressed—he really is good.

We also like that Darron offers packages for different budgets. His basic one, the Bronze Package, starts at £499 and includes the arrival of guests and the bridal party. It also consists of the actual ceremony and informal bridal party shots.

But if you want more coverage, he also offers gold and platinum packages, which include added perks, like a selection of shots and photos on a USB inside a presentation box.

Aside from that, it’s excellent that Darron offers other photography services. We were particularly impressed with his maternity and family packages. So, after the wedding, you don’t need to search elsewhere because Darron can be your photographer for other occasions.

However, Darron can be tied up to so many projects that securing his services might take a while. According to the colleague who referred him, they had to book two months in advance to get Darron’s services.

Pros

  • Has an impressive wedding portfolio
  • Offers other photography services
  • Reasonable pricing

Cons

  • Can take a while to secure a booking

Just tell him what your imaging and he’ll bring it to life or if you need inspiration he’s full of ideas.Darron was first booked for our wedding did such a fantastic job, we have used twice more for a first born baby shoot and a cake smash as well as Darron being recommended for a friend wedding too! We truly wouldn’t use anyone else great value for money! Thank you Darron.”

Expert but relaxed and down-to-earth

“I am so happy I chose Darron. He is an expert in his field but at the same time very relaxed and down to earth. It makes the whole process so much fun. I was so happy with the results and would recommend him to anyone, especially as he is so reasonably priced too.”

Two things immediately stood out to us about Clive Blair Photography. First, Clive is an expert at telling stories through photos. It seems that the images are all connected, whether sequentially or thematically.

Second, Clive is good at capturing spontaneous moments. The random, unplanned shots add a lighthearted, sometimes funny touch to Clive’s wedding albums. We love these photos because they show authentic, unfiltered emotions.

We also like that Clive is generous with his knowledge about weddings. We learned a lot from reading his website’s blogs and wedding tips. We have also heard he is as helpful as your wedding photographer during your big day.

However, previous clients shared that securing his services is difficult because he’s almost always booked.

His prices are also a bit on the high side. So, if you’re on a tighter budget, we suggest exploring other options from our list first.

Pros

  • Good at telling stories with photos
  • Great at capturing spontaneous moments
  • Generously gives wedding planning tips

Cons

  • High pricing
  • Securing a schedule can be difficult

Stunning photos and accommodating photographer

“We first spotted Clive’s work when we looked around our wedding venue and his photobook was on display, and we were immediately drawn to his storytelling style and the way he captured moments so beautifully! We booked the full-day package which was perfect because we’ve got really great shots from getting ready in the morning all the way to the sparkler exit at night, which tells the complete story! The photos are stunning, and Clive was so much fun to be around all day. The guests all loved him, and he made everyone very comfortable. The groom had a couple of special requests for certain shots, and Clive captured them perfectly. We would highly recommend him to anyone, you won’t regret it!”

Phenomenal pictures

“Clive is an absolute legend. Extremely friendly from the get go, and genuinely wants to make the event ur booking him for to be as special as it can be. Not just his job but seems to be his passion. Clive even went undercover as a fake hotel photographer to help keep the surprise of my proposal from my girlfriend. The photographs were phenomenal, beautifully capturing the moment. I have never had so many people ask me who took those pictures !

My friend and I got to see Mustard Yellow’s Nom and Malc in action at a friend’s wedding. What we loved most about watching them was how they relaxed the couple and everyone else. They were so friendly, accommodating, and fun to be around.

But most significantly, Nom and Malc’s photos reflect that free-spirited approach as they’re an equal mix of formal and wacky.

When we checked Mustard Yellow’s rates, we were pleasantly surprised—£1,800 for 10 to 12 hours, which we think is a steal. The package already includes a downloadable gallery of high-resolution photos and Nom and Malc’s travel fees.

We also like Mustard Yellow’s add-ons. The best for us is their £500 stop-motion film, a series of little films comprising the different photos Nom and Malc take during the wedding. Their £60 photobooth, meanwhile, is a bargain compared to other photographers.

Unfortunately, couples might have difficulty getting Nom and Malc on board. We heard they’re highly in demand all over the city and booked year-round.

Pros

  • Atmosphere is kept light and relaxed
  • Photos are a mix of formal and wacky
  • Offer add-ons to any package

Cons

  • Hard to book a schedule

Amazing photos

“We highly recommend Nom and Malc for your photography needs! They worked with us on our wedding in 2021, and then again for a family photoshoot this February. We love how comfortable they made us feel whilst taking the photos – particularly with a grumpy baby! The photos all come out amazing. We will definitely be arranging more family shoots in the future.”

Incredibly talented photographers

“My husband and I got married last month and have only just come back down to earth to write a review. Nom and Malc photographed our wedding and our engagement shoot a few months before. They are INCREDIBLY talented photographers, perfectly capturing the atmosphere of the day without putting any pressure on guests to pose. Their friendly manner and helpful natures also helped to make the day so special – they both really go above and beyond and embrace the chaos of a wedding day! I could not recommend them more highly!”

One look at David’s gallery and my friend and I immediately fell in love with him. According to my friend, David has this magical way of making the bride look…mesmerising.

We also heard from other couples that David is genuinely hands-on in helping clients maximise his service. He explains everything in detail, including the personalisation options. It’s great that he’s very particular because his packages start at £1,195, which is on the high side.

We next checked out David’s recommended suppliers. Other wedding photographers recommend their own, but we believe David’s choices enhance weddings the most. We particularly love StemStations for flowers and Kate Durrant for the wedding cake.

If you choose David, one issue will arise: his busy schedule. He has dates blocked off three months in advance. We suggest contacting him three to four months before your wedding date to avoid the booking hassle.

Pros

  • Elegant-looking photos
  • Hands-on approach
  • Great wedding suppliers

Cons

  • Must book well in advance
  • Premium pricing

A fabulous and helpful photographer

“David was our wedding photographer back in August and we can’t recommend him enough. We are absolutely over the moon with our photos! He has managed to capture the day perfectly. We recently received our wedding album and it is stunning. Not only is he a fabulous photographer but he was so helpful throughout the planning process and was super quick to respond to any queries. He was very efficient on the wedding day and none of our guests felt like they were having to wait around for photos. Worth every penny! Thank you so much David!”

– Anna Heafield-Weir, Google Review

Brilliant, experienced, and professional

“Brilliant photographer! You get what you pay for! David was very experienced, professional and made us feel so at ease on our wedding day. The photos came out stunning and all the guests at the wedding kept commenting on how professional David was and the photos spoke for themselves. We now have photos of our memories to last a lifetime.”

5. Blue Jay Photography

Address: West Midlands

Contact Details: +44 794 815 6183

 Operating Hours:

  • Monday to Sunday: 9 AM – 6 PM

AJay of Blue Jay Photography has an impressive portfolio that we found valuable. In fact, she earned a credential of being a regional finalist in The Wedding Business Awards in 2020—for us, that’s a pretty big deal!

Talking about her photos, previous clients shared this element of spontaneity in AJay’s pictures. They’re candid and capture raw human emotions at the right time. But AJay’s more formal compositions rock just as well, and they have this undeniable romantic vibe.

Another plus for us is Blue Jay’s reasonably priced packages. The basic £525 Songbird covers unlimited photos from the ceremony to the sitdown. The £1,775 Swan includes unlimited photos from the pre-wedding preps to the first dance, plus an additional photographer.

We think Blue Jay’s pricing is hard to beat. However, just a heads-up—there’s a £200 non-refundable booking fee to secure your date. It’s not really a huge deal if you’re sure about your choice, but if plans change, you won’t get that money back.

Pros

  • Impressive photo composition
  • Natural and relaxed style
  • Affordable pricing

Cons

  • Requires a £200 non-refundable booking fee

Beautiful photos

“Ajay was amazing from the moment we reached out to get a quote to the day she presented us with the finished product. Communication was great. she has a lovely presence and guests loved her as much as we did. The photos are so beautiful I still find it hard to choose which ones to print and display. Ajay is so reasonably priced for the market and worth every penny, book her , you will not be disappointed. Highly recommend.”

– Christina Cudd, Google Review

Incredible experience

“The most wonderful photographer! We had Ajay come to photograph our wedding in June 2022 and she was incredible, we had an engagement shoot beforehand to meet and get to know each other before the big day too. Ajay makes you feel so relaxed and comfortable, which makes everything else so easy! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for memories we can look back on forever.”
